Lets face it, there’s some rubbish on the web when it comes to invoice templates. To be honest, I spent the better half of a day searching in what seemed an endless circle of dead end websites before I finally found anything decent. There were simply invoice template, after invoice template that I downloaded that was absolute garbage. Some promised some pretty fancy calculations only to spew out incorrect data. Others were locked and I couldn’t enter in my own data, and there were others that I downloaded that I couldn’t even open. I guess they mustve been the wrong file format or something?

Anyway, after finally finding some decent templates, I found the best ones cover certain elements that make them a breeze to use. These elements however, whilst suitable for me, might not be suitable for you, as you may have a different intended purpose, but for the basics, heres what a good invoice template should include. Firstly, your template should include quantity, product description, unit price and amount. It should also calculates tax and freight charges. Secondly, youll want an invoice in either word or excel format, that you can save and either print off easily or email to your clients. Lastly, your invoice template should allow you to add your own business details, like fax, phone, email and your own business logo.
